Challenge
Fox Television’s newest programming service, MyNetwork, is based on the enormously popular telenovelas from Mexico and South America. The genre attracts as many as 80% of prime time viewers in those countries when the plots reach key turning points. In the US, novelas are a new concept. Fox Television Stations approached What’s Up Interactive, its longtime Web development partner about creating a Web site for its New York MyNetwork flagship station, WWOR-TV. Our long relationship meant the site would be developed quickly and reliably.
Benefits
Working with What’s Up, WWOR-TV could count on a robust Web site that integrated elements of the MyNetwork service including design parameters consistent with the network and a scalable streaming video engine and customized player that could handle hundreds — even thousands — of visitors at once. The station also counts on the creative side of What’s Up to develop micro Web sites that are targeted to local advertisers and station promotions.
Project Details
With a hard launch in early September, 2006, What’s Up Interactive had to work quickly with various divisions of Fox Television Stations and its sister companies; as well as technology solution partners to develop a Web site that could handle potentially massive traffic. Our solution included a custom Content Management System (What’s Up’s EZ Post CMS), a scalable streaming video solution, custom video player, and graphic interface that conveyed MyNetwork’s prime time series within style guidelines required by the network. We met the deadline, exceeding client expectations by providing more functionality than originally scoped.
Return on Investments for Fox Television Stations
Delivered on an aggressive timeline, What’s Up Interactive delivered a robust Web site for WWOR-TV, one of the country’s largest television stations on budget with enhanced functionality.
